The historic Belmont Mansion is situated on the campus of Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Between 1849 and 1853, the Belmont Mansion was built for Adelicia Hayes Franklin Acklen, one of the wealthiest ladies in Tennessee at that time. It was an Italianate villa that served as the Acklen family's summer retreat.

The Belmont Mansion contains an outstanding collection of paintings, sculptures, and furniture. The interior of the mansion is embellished with exquisite period furnishings and artwork that reflect the lavish lifestyle and tastes of the mid-19th century.

Belmont Mansion was a key location during the Civil War. Adelicia Acklen left the house for a brief period of time, and the Confederate troops occasionally gathered there. During the Civil War, Union troops also occupied the house.
